Can Tea be Good for Dogs?
It may seem strange, but tea for dogs is not unheard of and can actually have a number of health benefits. Once you’ve done the proper research and have ensured that your dog has no allergies, there’s nothing wrong with letting him or her benefit from the effects of tea. It can be administered using a syringe or straight into your pet's bowl if they have no issues with drinking it themselves.
Particularly, chamomile tea can be as beneficial to canines as it is to humans. Throughout history, chamomile has been used to treat a number of ailments, such as inflammation and irritation of the skin and bacterial infections. Its antioxidant properties make it a number one choice for a number of reasons, and it’s one of the best-selling teas in the world.
Chamomile tea can be used to calm your pet's digestive system and relieve gas. It’s also helpful for dogs who tend to get over excited and throw up as a result, particularly after eating. In this case, the tea should be given to the dog orally. One tablespoon of chamomile flowers boiled in a cup of water for 15 minutes is enough, but be sure to add another cup of water once it is brewed so that the concoction is not too strong. Of course, don’t forget to strain the tea, to prevent loose leaf from being eaten!
Tea can also be good for your pet in other ways. Chamomile tea can be chilled and stored in a spray bottle in the fridge to spray on your dog's skin when it is itching and irritated. Relief should come immediately afterwards. The same tea can also be used with 3 parts sterile saline solution to make eye drops suitable for your pooch, particularly for conjunctivitis, which is more commonly known as 'pink eye'. Use a medicine dropper to administer the solution up to three times a day until the irritation is noticeably gone. (But it’s best to consult your vet before doing this.)
But chamomile isn’t the only tea for dogs. Here at California Tea House, we consulted numerous vets to concoct a tea that’s great for our canine friends. Machu’s Blend is a tea blend comprised of chamomile, ginger root, fennel seed, skullcap, and calendula. It promotes healthy skin and coal and also lowers stress and aids digestion.
